Special considerations are needed when buying bedspreads for four-poster beds. Bedspreads with skirts or pleats need to have a separation at the bottom corners to get around the posts. Also if the bed has a foot board you may have to be aware of the clearance between the board and the mattress. This can be a big concern with thick or heavily stuffed bedspreads.
Other considerations with bedspreads is washability. Always check and see if the bedspread is washing machine safe or if it needs to be dry clearned. Dry cleaning can be very expensive since cleaning is charged by the weight of the bed spread. Even with machine washable bedspread, size and weight of the bedspread needs to be factored into whether it can be washed at home or will have to be taken to a laundromat or the cleaners. Bedspreads made with light weight material are easier to fit in a heavy duty washer. Bed spreads that are stuffed can pose a real problem.
Keep in mind young children and pets. Animal's nails and children's toys can get caught in loosely knit materials. It only takes one time for a child or an animal to get caught in a thread causing a run through the whole bedspread.
